I’m loving these Ivy self interview prompts, so welcome to part three!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
There are many! But chief among them are:
– Free reign to be the relentless hedonist I am. This job provides a space in which to feel and share pleasure without guilt or scrutiny.
– Learning from my clients who come from a vast range of backgrounds and occupations.
– Enriching the lives of those I spend time with and knowing I made the world if only a slightly better place by improving someone’s day.
If you could change one thing about the industry, what would it be?
Societal stigma.
What’s a song that always lifts your mood?
“I Got The” by Labi Siffre
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
I’m quite outdoorsy and have done some traditionally “adventurous” stuff like travelled through the desert and swum with sharks. But probably entering this occupation in all honestly. There’s a huge amount of stigma and fearmongering. It takes a courageous heart to make the first step into this world. You give up the safety of a 9-5 existence for taking the plunge into unknown challenges. But I’m glad I did.
What’s a quote or saying that resonates with you deeply?
From Octavia Butler’s Parable series:
“All that you touch
You Change.
All that you Change
Changes you.
The only lasting truth is Change.
God is Change.”
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self?
That your time and energy are precious commodities and not resources to be mined by everyone. Your energy is precious and you’ll regret not cutting toxic people off sooner more than you’ll regret coming across as too harsh.
Who has been the most influential person in your life and why?
This will sound cringe, but my parents. They are both very humble, strong and hardworking people who instilled a drive and determination in me but kept me grounded and compassionate at the same time.
